Graphic Medical Ethics: A Casebook of Clinical Dilemmas from Around the World presents real-life medical ethics cases from eight countries in graphic (comic) form, offering accessible, multicultural perspectives on complex healthcare dilemmas for both professionals and general readers.
The volume includes the Dutch story Changing Voices by Tineke Abma, Eveline van de Putte, and Marie-Louise Kok, and will be published by Routledge in fall 2026.
This graphic novel is a collection of original ethics cases in clinical medicine, rendered in comic (graphic) form, as practiced in eight countries around the world. The book is a scholarly and creative contribution to the fields of Health/Medical Humanities, Medical Ethics, and Graphic Medicine; it aims to help satisfy a continually growing demand for global learning and cultural understanding in the popular medium of comics.

Designed and led by Dr. Kimberly R. Myers, Professor of Humanities, Medicine, and Ophthalmology at Penn State College of Medicine, this book is a collaboration among 37 professionals (medicine, ethics, humanities, graphic artists) from 16 countries, on 6 continents.
The story Changing Voices, from the Netherlands, is submitted by professor Tineke Abma, author Eveline van de Putte and learning expert Marie-Louise Kok and adapted by artist Zoe Schein. The book will be published in Fall 2026 by Routledge.
Lead author Kimberly Myers and contributors Tineke Abma, Eveline van de Putte and Marie-Louise Kok will be presenting at the Graphic Medicine Europe Conference (9/10 September in Amsterdam and 11/12 September in Rotterdam).

In Memoriam: Professor Tetsuo Tsuji, President of ILC Japan
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Professor Tetsuo Tsuji on July 30, 2026. At the time of his passing, Professor Tsuji was President of ILC Japan and, until March 2026, a Professor at the Institute of Gerontology, University of Tokyo, one of Japan’s leading institutions for research on ageing.
