The ILC Global Alliance (ILC GA) has launched a new Spotlight Series to highlight the activities of each ILC GA member country.
The first member country in the spotlight was the ILC GA’s newest member – ILC Uganda.
The Center for Aging in Uganda was invited to represent Uganda in the ILC Global Alliance in October 2025, becoming ILC Uganda, the 17th member nation in the Alliance.
The heart of The Center for Aging in Uganda is The Kisoro Elders Project, established in 2017 in partnership with Doctors for Global Health Uganda and Kisoro District Hospital.
Doctors for Global Health (DGH) Uganda, established in 2008, had trained Village Health Workers (VHWs) from 52 villages to work as primary care providers in their villages. The Kisoro Elders Project added skills in geriatric care to their capabilities. They perform screenings and interventions for common problems of older adults which impact their functional status and quality of life: problems with Vision, Hearing, Mobility, Pain, Depression, Lack of an Energy Source, and Malnutrition. The goal of the Project has been to provide these interventions at low cost by Ugandan health care workers, hopefully with a model that is replicable in other low income countries.
The Center for Aging was established in 2024 as a resource center for other groups and communities hoping to benefit older adults. The Resource section of the website (aginginuganda.org) provides a step-by-step guide and training script for each screening and intervention.
