The International Longevity Centre Global Alliance is delighted to be approved as an Affiliate of the World Health Organization Global Network of Age Friendly Cities and Communities.
The mission of the ILC Global Alliance (ILC GA) is to help societies to address longevity and population ageing in positive and productive ways, typically using a life course approach, highlighting older people’s productivity and contributions to family and society. The Alliance member organisations carry out the mission through developing ideas, undertaking research and creating forums for debate and action.
Age Friendly Cities and Communities have long been central to the work of the ILCs and the Alliance. Alliance members have been foundational and central to the development of age friendly cities and communities, both practically on the ground, and to the global movement.
We plan to bring our skills, experience and reach to the Global Network to champion age friendly cities and communities at a global level.
One of our first activities as a GNAFCC Affiliate member will be to run a workshop at the International Federation of Ageing Conference in Capetown South Africa, in September 2025. This workshop will unroll our ambitions as a GNAFCC Affiliate and make connections to help further support existing and new GNAFCC members. The workshop will also reflect on the journey towards an Age Friendly World, including insights by Age Friendly pioneer Alex Kalache. We will highlight progress and successes and contemplate some of the difficulties and shortfalls in trying to become ever more age friendly in our changing world. Workshop participants will discuss experiences, examples and opportunities within their own country settings. The discussion will also consider issues of measurement and evaluation, and the use of evidence in building knowledge and changing policy and practice.
The ILC GA looks forward to our new roles and partnership with the GNAFCC leadership, other affiliates, and members.
