6th edition of ILC-BR’s international event takes a look into the future of ageing.

On November 22nd and 23rd, the International Longevity Centre Brazil (ILC-BR) in collaboration with Bradesco Seguros (Brazil’s largest insurance company) and other partners hosted the International Longevity Forum in Rio de Janeiro for the sixth time. The 6th International Longevity Forum focused on Designing the future of ageing and discussed technological developments and other achievements in science.
In her opening remarks, Baroness Sally Greengross, Chief-Executive of ILC-UK and Special Ambassador to the Global Alliance of ILCs, alerted that “excessive respect and consideration to older people is a type of prejudice”. One of the central messages was, as expressed by Dr. Alexandre Kalache, president of ILC-BR, that “the Longevity Revolution – more than thirty years added to life expectancy at birth over the last 100 years – is under threat. This is due to increasing inequalities worldwide.”
The Forum brought together a group of around 30 national and international experts in ageing who shared their knowledge and expertise around public policy, inequalities and racial discrimination, genetics, economics, primary health, long-term and dementia care.
An outcome document of the Forum is being produced and will be published on this website as soon as it is finalized. The Forum, a realization of Bradesco Seguros / Universeg, was co-sponsored by MSD Pharmaceuticals.
