Climate Committee
Summary
Our primary purpose is to ensure that longevity and healthy ageing are considered within current and future climate change policy.
Our three guiding principles for our work are:
- Inspiring – we want to inspire and influence policy makers to get longevity on the climate change agenda. And we want to inspire an intergenerational approach to tackling climate change for a fair future
- Inclusive – we want to facilitate an inclusive initiative where everyone regardless of age, background, gender or ethnicity is included in the climate change agenda
- Innovating – we want to ensure that longevity is considered across new innovations in housing, infrastructure, investment and product /service design in the effort to build a sustainable future for people of all ages
Activities
The committee has
- Organised a series of Global Alliance Discussion Webinars
- Issued global press releases
- Developed an initiative paper, evidence review and plans for next steps.
- Supported individual ILCs to organise events and research e.g.
- ILC-UK Future of Ageing Conference featured Jonathan Porritt talking about climate change and ageing
- ILC Australia developed a rapid literature review on the impact of heatwaves on older Australians
- ILC Australia spoke at an event alongside COP26 being hosted by the Design Museum
- ILC Australia Organised workshop and Radio National Big Ideas (Australia) broadcast including focus on climate change and ageing
- Developed/drafted an evidence review on climate change and longevity

The October 2025 Longevity Bulletin published by the UK’s Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) focuses on climate change and brings together leading actuarial and scientific voices to explore how a warming planet could reshape risk models, mortality trends, and long-term investment decisions.
