ILC-UK Future of Ageing 2025We could all be living longer, happier, more active lives. But if policymakers fail to act and plan for the long-term, we will see health and care systems in crisis, further economic downturn and public services on the brink.
We could all be living longer, happier, more active lives. But if policymakers fail to act and plan for the long-term, we will see health and care systems in crisis, further economic downturn and public services on the brink.
Our Route Map for Long Lives sets out some of the bold and forward-thinking solutions we need to make the most of long lives. Too often policy and practice are driven by crisis or the news agenda, and as a result the changes that take place either address only half the problem, or they have unintended consequences. But we can no longer afford to tinker at the margins of policy on ageing. The seismic shift seen over recent decades in the makeup of our population, and our lifespans, needs to be matched by transformational change in how we approach public policy – in every area of our lives. Nothing short of this can be enough.
Policymakers, business leaders and experts across the longevity space came together to take stock and discuss how the new Government can move beyond short-termism and create a vision for the 100-year life, where we are healthier, happier and more productive for longer.
