MISSION
・To understand processes, implications and situations of individual and population ageing in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), and to help African societies to accommodate an expanding older population and to enhance the quality of life of older people. ILCSA carries out its mission through research, training and advocacy, and the dissemination of knowledge for decision support. Its programs view population ageing and longevity positively, and aim to facilitate the optimisation of individuals' capacity for active, health and productive ageing.

・Study to Understand and Foster the Functioning and Involvement of Contributive Elders (SUFFICE), in collaboration with the Stroud Center for Study of Quality of Life at Columbia University and ILC-USA
・Ageing, Well-being and Development: A Comparative Study of Brazil and South Africa, in collaboration with co-investigators in the UK, Brazil and South Africa
・Research and policy development to support and empower older carers to persons affected by HIV/AIDS
・Expansion of Geriatrics Clinical Services and Education program, in partnership with the government and AFRAN.
・Participation in AFRAN's Policy-Research Dialogue on Health and Older Persons, in Abuja, Nigeria
