Japan celebrates Respect the Aged Day (Japan Aug.08)


In Japan the third Monday in September is a national holiday called "Respect the Aged Day.” Additionally, one week starting September 15th is designated as "Older Persons Week.” Various events take place during this week: for example, visits to institutions for elder care by the Emperor, Royal Family, Prime Minister, presentation of congratulatory certificate to people 100 and over, and public recognition of older persons with practice of Ageless Life. Additionally, the national government holds campaigns highlighting various programs for older people and many communities hold events celebrating the accomplishments of older people and promoting their well-being.
